Lenovo S41 80JU000VUS

The Lenovo S41 is an affordable ultrabook solution that embodies uncompromising features in a thin and lightweight body, perfect for those who want more from their everyday laptop. It’s a bit of a crossover between the more established, sleek and glossy ultrabooks and the down to earth notebooks which can be used in a home environment. Thus, the unassuming Lenovo S41 Series will serve as a good mobile office station for most users.

Lenovo S41 80JU000VUS Review

The 80JU000VUS version of the S41 Series comes equipped with a fast dual core Intel i7-5500U processor that scored just under 4000 points in standardized benchmark tests, making it a capable CPU, able to handle most workloads and multitasking requirements. Being launched earlier this year, the CPU that comes with the Lenovo S41 will likely hold up to future system requirements quite well.

The Lenovo S41 Series Ultrabook8 gigabytes of installed system memory will likely be enough for any travelling businessman, college student or any other average user to fully enjoy apps at their whole potential. However, it comes with a hybrid HDD-SSD drive, which we think will slow down this notebook a bit, and although the 1 terabyte of available storage space is always welcomed, we would have liked to see a factory installed Solid State Drive. This is an upgrade that’s highly recommended if you find yourself wanting the system to be more snappy, to boot up faster and to run programs more smoothly. Otherwise, the hard disk-solid state drive combo will suffice for most users.

Although the design and general appearance is -as I said earlier- unassuming, the LED backlit screen is rather spectacular, delivering crispy, bright images on its full HD display. Also, to complete this striking duality, the Lenovo S41 – 80JU000VUS is also fitted with a discretely backlit AccuType keyboard. So, even if the Lenovo looks like a thinner version of a low-end notebook, it certainly has distinctive outer features that separate it from the bunch in an elegant manner.

At 3.7 pounds, the S41 is quite light and also thin enough (0.77″) to consider sliding it in your travel bag. Other functional features include a new generation 802.11ac WLAN card, 2 USB 3.0 ports and very importantly for an affordable ultrabook, the presence of an Ethernet card to aid in those places that might not provide wireless access. Also, the battery will hold a 6 hour charge, which is not extraordinary, but neither is it disappointing, since it’s a budget ultrabook we’re talking about.

The Lenovo S41

All in all, the Lenovo S41 80JU000VUS is a rather good option to consider for a budget ultrabook with mid-range technical specifications. It may not have a spectacular battery life, but being lightweight and thin will surely surprise anyone when factoring in the selling price as well.
