HP Pavilion 13-s120nr x360

HP’s incredibly versatile 2-in-1 notebook series, the x360 has been updated with a new addition, the Pavilion 13-s120nr. This a small form convertible laptop which comes packed with goodies at a fairly low price, considering what it can offer in return.

Review

The HP Pavilion 13-s120nr x360 is a compact notebook suited for everyday use. It’s one of the first devices from Hewlett Packard to feature the new Skylake architecture processor. More specifically, the HP Pavilion 13-s120nr is equipped with an ultra low voltage Intel Core i3-6100U processor, with no hyper turbo technology, but with 3 megabytes of cache size. It will perform better than the older generation chips, especially in the power saving department. Furthermore, this CPU will have enough computational power for you to not feel the need to upgrade anytime soon, meaning that daily tasks are going to be handled like it’s nothing.

Currently priced at $529, the HP we’re reviewing has a good combination of features and hardware equipment to make it worthwhile. Four gigabytes of system memory is an adequate amount for today’s needs, meaning an upgrade won’t be necessary for the entire lifetime of this small notebook. However, storage space might prove to be insufficient for some users, many being used to one terabyte hard drives. The HP Pavilion 13-s120nr x360 comes with only 500 gigabytes of available space.

Sadly, it doesn’t have a dedicated video card, but we weren’t really expecting one for a model that was designed to be as versatile as possible within a low-to-mid price range. However, it has an Ethernet card and a new generation 802.11ac wireless card, making it a great device to stream shows or music via Wi-Fi. Also, adding a bit of oomph are the stereo speakers powered by Bang&Olufsen’s B&O Play audio technology. The sound is crisp and very loud at high volume.

The 13.3 inch touchscreen display has a modest resolution (just 1366 x 768), but doesn’t feel flimsy at all when touched. The hinges offer good resistance when nudging the screen with your fingers. Also, while switching between usage modes, the hinges manage somehow to rotate smoothly and effortlessly.

This laptop’s value for money is great, at least in my opinion. Think about it. For the money you pay for a tablet, HP comes and offers a notebook that can also be used as a tablet, with the latest processor technology and a full sized operating system. I think it’s a great deal that shouldn’t be missed, especially by those in need of more than one device (ex: one which can handle multimedia and one which can run Office smoothly).

Final Thoughts

I really think the HP Pavilion 13-s120nr x360 is a capable and promising laptop, suited not for power users, but for people who will enjoy some portability alongside the functionality that the convertible design comes with. It’s great for home users, college students, to take on vacation or in a coffee shop.
