One of the best laptop series to be released in 2016, Acer’s Swift line, has just received a notable hardware update. The Acer Swift 3 SF314-51-50CX is the successor of the popular and well-received 52W2 model I’ve covered in a previous review.
Review
Apart from the processing unit being updated, not much has changed with this mid-range Swift 3 notebook. Acer has added an Intel i5-7200U processor, effectively replacing the 6th generation i5-6200U unit we’ve seen on previous models.
Thus, performance remains almost unchanged. It’s still a slight increase in processing power, but one that will likely go unnoticed by the vast majority of users. The increment is way too small to be noticed when working on your everyday tasks.
I’ll summarize the main tech specs of the Acer Swift 3 SF314-51-50CX below:
- Dual Core Intel i5-7200U processor
- 8 gigabytes of DDR4 system memory
- 256-gigabyte Solid-State Drive
- 14-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS display
- 802.11ac 2×2 MU-MIMO Wi-Fi
- 10 hours of battery life

Perhaps it’s for the better that no distinct improvements have been made to its chassis. I believe the same can be said for the features, the hardware, and so on. This is a notebook series which has a bright future ahead, and it needs time to mature before being reimagined.
What’s more, it’s hard to improve such a gorgeous device, with an almost perfect blend of affordability, features and performance.
