Dell is one of the first laptop manufacturers to adopt the brand new generation of Intel processors, called Kaby Lake. Specifically, the 17-inch Dell i5767-6370GRY features a 7th generation Intel i7 CPU.
Review
Having enough resources at your fingertips is desirable when talking about large format notebooks. The new Dell i5767-6370GRY delivers those resources and then some. Sure, it’s not the most refined or good looking laptop out there, but this desktop replacement has almost everything you’d need to work, game or relax on.
Expansive, user friendly and dependable, this notebook should sit comfortably on any desk rather than in a backpack. Functionality comes in second for a 17-inch device.
Performance
As I mentioned earlier, the Dell i5767-6370GRY is powered by a 7th generation Intel Core i7-7500u processor. This dual core CPU is the successor of the 6500u model. Performance is similar, with a noticeable increase in clock speed: 4 megabytes of cache, a frequency range between 2.5 GHz and 3.1 GHz and a thermal design power of 15 Watts.
Its predecessor scored 4300 points in benchmark tests, so it’s expected for the i7-7500u to slightly outrank it. Windows 10 will run smooth on this CPU, along with any programs you might use on a daily basis.

System memory is rated at 16 gigabytes of DDR4-2400 SDRAM. The 2400 module has the best data transfer rate out of all DDR4 varieties. Also, system memory is already maxed out, but that’s ok since it wouldn’t be wise to upgrade a component and gain marginal benefits. Sixteen gigs of RAM are adequate to handle large data sets, heavy multitasking, demanding programs like Illustrator and Photoshop and whatever game you’d want to play.
The Dell i5767-6370GRY comes with enough storage space to hold large media collections, photo galleries and a wide collection of games. It comes with 2 terabytes of available space on a 5400rpm HDD. Although the extra space will come in handy many times, there isn’t an option to add an additional SSD on which to install the operating system to gain an extra boost of speed.
I therefore recommend buying a solid state drive somewhere along the road to replace the existing HDD. What you’ll likely lose in storage space you’ll make up in better program load times, faster Windows boot sequence and more.
Graphics and Display
Thanks to its dedicated video card, the Dell i5767-6370GRY will be able to render games at decent frame rates. It has an entry level AMD Radeon R7 M445 graphics card, enough for you to run CS:GO, LoL and other multiplayer games easily. I wouldn’t buy it to play more Battlefield 1 or Overwatch though. For that kind of gaming, I’d recommend the ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71.
The display panel is nothing to brag about. It has a 17.3 inch screen with a FHD matte LED-backlit display. No IPS technology is present.

Interface Options
It’s a bit disappointing that Dell didn’t throw a USB-C port in the mix, especially since every other component seems to be of excellent value. Alas, the I/O options are standard for a desktop replacement laptop:
- 2 x USB 3.0 ports
- 1 x USB 2.0 port
- 1 x HDMI-out
- 1 x Audio combo jack
- 1 x RJ-45
- 1 x SD/xc/hc card reader
- 1 x DVD-Writer unit
Networking
An Ethernet connection is available for those high speed transfer rates, and an equally speedy 802.11ac dual band wireless card will guarantee fast downloads over a wireless network, provided you also have an compatible router (click here to see a list of ac routers). It also comes with built-in Bluetooth 4.0, perfect to connect a number of household devices to your laptop.
Portability
A 17.3-inch laptop is not an object you’d want to carry around everywhere you go. Travel will be difficult with this Dell, since it weighs 6.8 pounds without the charger. Therefore, I think it’s way more suited to act as a desktop replacement or a college dorm laptop. It’s a great alternative to a work computer thanks to its large screen, but I would avoid taking it home each day.
Conclusion

So, the Dell i5767-6370GRY has some good potential to become the go-to choice for home or home office users as a desktop replacement laptop. Sure, it’s not so portable as other models, nor is it suited for gaming as much as more expensive models, but the Dell will handle everyday tasks with ease and will act as a multimedia notebook around your home as well as a work station in your office.
